Who I am
I'm Ryan Lindsey. For 14 years I've managed construction and land development projects — as a sitework project manager, general contractor, owner's representative and land developer — on jobs ranging from $500,000 to $20 million. My degree is in civil engineering.
That work is where my interest in this comes from. When several projects are running at once, the difference between the schedule you planned and the one you actually worked is not an abstract idea. It is the thing that decides whether the week holds together.
What I work on
I built Taskmetrics because if you want to improve something, you have to measure it. As demands on my time grew, efficiency became a necessary focus — and understanding that a “30 minute” task actually took 45 minutes is what bridges the gap between optimism and reality.
Before this I used Todoist for three years, and tracked time in Toggl for about a year alongside it. Both are good products. The problem was that they never met in the middle: my tasks lived in one, my hours in the other, and nothing ever compared what I planned against what actually happened.
I use Taskmetrics throughout my day, including the parts where I get it wrong. My morning workout is a good example: I often forget to start the timer, so I log the time when I get to the office. That data, along with everything else I track, guides my daily decisions about what is working and what needs to change.
